Steven J. Quamme is a co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Cartica Capital. Prior to forming Cartica, he was a co-founder and COO of Breeden Capital Management, , the manager of a $1.0 billion private investment fund focused on governance and relational investing in the United States. Mr. Quamme was also a Senior Managing Director of Richard C. Breeden & Co., a multi-disciplinary professional services firm focused on corporate governance, restructurings and turnarounds.
From 2000-2005, Mr. Quamme was the founder and co-CEO of Milestone Merchant Partners, ("Milestone"). Milestone is a full service merchant bank based in Washington DC that provides investment banking services through Milestone Advisors, , a broker-dealer registered with the National Association of Securities Dealers. In addition, Milestone was the General Partner of a series of private equity funds including MMP Capital Partners, LP (subsequently renamed Blackstreet Capital Partners, LP) as well as funds sponsored by Milestone's International Equity Partners: India Direct Fund, Romania Moldova Direct Fund and eTEC (India), Ltd. Investors in Milestone's funds included many of the world's largest institutional investors, such as the World Bank Group's International Finance Corporation, Mitsui, the Government of Singapore, DEG (Germany), ChinaTrust (Taiwan's largest private bank) and the Archer Daniels Midland Corporation.
Mr. Quamme began his career as a securities and mergers & acquisitions attorney at Baker Botts and over the course of five years worked on all forms of corporate transactions including hostile tender offers, mergers and acquisitions, public and private financings, leveraged buy-outs, purchases and sales of assets. Mr. Quamme graduated from Northwestern University and also the Northwestern University School of Law where he is a member of the Law Board. In addition, in 2002, Mr. Quamme served as a White House delegate to the United Nations International Conference on Development in Monterrey Mexico. In 2004, Mr. Quamme was honored by President Wade with Senegal's Order of Merit.
